The Law School

Bucerius Law School in Hamburg is the only private and state-accredited law school in Germany. It was founded in 2000 by the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius, one of Germany’s largest private foundations. By offering an academically accomplished, practice-oriented, and bi-lingual legal education with a focus on international business law, it has created a successful alternative to the usual legal education provided at German state universities. Bucerius Law School graduates acquire the LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws) degree after 10 trimesters and are subsequently prepared to complete Germany's First State Examination in Law. Fifteen full-time professorial chairs, an Institute for Foundation Law and the Law of Non-Profit Organizations and a Center for Legal Didactics have been established.
