The Law School
Bucerius Law School in Hamburg is the only private and state-accredited law school in Germany. It was founded in 2000 by the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius, one of Germany’s largest private foundations. By offering an academically accomplished, practice-oriented, and bi-lingual legal education with a focus on international business law, it has created a successful alternative to the usual legal education provided at German state universities. Bucerius Law School graduates acquire the LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws) degree after 10 trimesters and are subsequently prepared to complete Germany's First State Examination in Law. Fifteen full-time professorial chairs, an Institute for Foundation Law and the Law of Non-Profit Organizations and a Center for Legal Didactics have been established. Each October 100 undergraduate students begin their studies. The outstanding performance of the first generation of graduates on the German First State Examination in Law has proven the success of Bucerius’ innovative approach. More than 70 students pursue doctoral and postdoctoral studies at Bucerius Law School.
In 2002, the school introduced its International Exchange Program, which offers selected students from over 70 partner universities a unique opportunity to study German, European and international law in a one term Program in International and Comparative Business Studies. In 2004, the school presented its first executive seminar to young lawyers and legal professionals in Beijing, China, which covered topical issues within EU and German law. The Master of Law and Business is the latest addition to the curricular activities of the school.

Location
The MLB program takes place primarily on the campus of the Bucerius Law School, located in Hamburg, Germany. The campus successfully combines both traditional and modern architecture. The main campus building, constructed in 1908, has been updated with the most modern technology available. An “auditorium maximum” in modern style was added in 2003. In addition, a new building providing larger library and cafeteria facilities is being constructed and will be opened in June 2007.
The campus is centrally-located, just minutes away from Hamburg’s main commercial district, shopping areas, and the lovely Inner and Outer Alster Lakes. Public transportation is steps away. In addition to possessing its own grounds upon which students can relax between classes, the campus borders on an extensive series of parks.
Hamburg, a beautiful city with some two million inhabitants, combines a thriving port, strong media, publishing and other industries with a vibrant nightlife and wealth of cultural activities.
