Public lecture by Shotaro Hamamoto, University of Kyoto, organized by University of Lausanne LLM in International and European Economic and Commercial Law

Professor Shotaro Hamamoto of University of Kyoto, Japan, will give a lecture as part of the Public Lecture Series organized by the Université de Lausanne LLM program in International and European Economic and Commercial Law in Switzerland.

The public lecture is scheduled to take place Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 5:15pm at the Internef UNIL - Dorigny, Lausanne.

Professor Hamamoto has been part of the University of Kyoto faculty since 2009. His prior academic appointments include teaching positions in Japan (Professor, Kobe University, 2006-9) and abroad (Professeur invité, Université de Paris I, 2009 and Sciences Po de Paris, 2012). Alongside his academic career, he is an experienced practitioner on law of the sea issues. He has served as an Advocate for the Japanese Government in the Hoshinmaru and Tomimaru Cases (Japan v. Russia, ITLOS, 2007) as well as an Assistant for the Spanish Government in the Fisheries Jurisdiction Case (Spain v. Canada, ICJ, 1998). Among other notable professional appointments, Professor Hamamoto has served as the Japanese Representative to the UNCITRAL WGII (Arbitration/Conciliation) (2010-) and to the OECD Investment Committee (2011); as an Expert on the Advisory Group on Legal Issues, Monitoring Group of the Anti-Doping Convention of the Council of Europe (2010-); and as an Arbitrator on the Japan Sports Arbitration Agency (2008-). Professor Hamamoto has published extensively on several areas of public international law, especially law of the sea and international investment law.
